Armah Mensah Jnr, is Ghanaian songwriter, actor and CEO of shatta Wale Movement Empire.
Having achieving very higher goals after hustling on the streets, Shatta Wale has won series of awards which includes the famous Vodafone Ghana Music Awards for his best single “Dancehall King”.
Charles Nii Armah as we all know as Shatta Wale was formerly called Bandana till his return from Jamaica. With this rebranded name from Bandana to Shatta Wale, he started a new career which largely bothers on dancehall in a Jamaican style.
Early Life of Shatta Wale.
Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr. was born in Accra, Ghana at the Police Hospital on 17 October, 1984. The son of a couple from Accra and the Volta region of Ghana. His father is b name Charles Nii Armah Sr., who is a politician, business man and legal practitioner (lawyer). Shatta Wale attended Seven Great Princes Academy at Dansoman, a suburb in Accra, where he demonstrated a love and great passion for music and arts. This led him to great stages. As at that time, he acted in a popular drama series, By the fireside, at the National Theatre of Ghana.
As a child, his father introduced him to the Jamaican culture by playing Reggae records in the house and also continuously travelling him to the UK to meet his relatives who were half Jamaicans.
These exposures made Shatta Wale develop unquenchable interest for music.
Shatta later wanted to pursue the musical career but his father being a lawyer at that time wanted his son to follow his footsteps. Shatta Wale who saw great light in the Music World refused his dad which led to their relationship been torn apart.
Shatta Wale then started to live in the ghettos in the Nima, a town in the greater Accra region which is much populated with Muslims and small Christians.
Shatta Wale: “There were times I used to sleep without food. I have been through hell, I mean all hustle of life but I am thankful to God for my life today because I lived with the people and became one of their own. Shatta Wale stated this in an interview.
His musical Career started in his high school days at the Winneba secondary school, where he learned how to play keyboard. After secondary school, he then took time to work on his musical career. He soon gained recognition with his hit single, “Moko Hoo”, which featured a fellow ghanian musician Tinny in 2004 using Bandana as his stage name.
The song earned him a nomination at the Ghana Music Awards of the Year. Bandana later followed with hit songs like Obaa Yaa. At this point of his life, he was receiving different rotations of interviews from different radio stations.
In 2019-20, he featured in Beyonce’s song title “Already” on her The lion King, the Gift which climbed a height in the world charts and got nominated in the Grammys.
